The transmission of Spanish is lost in the third generation of immigrants throughout North America.
The mission of the Legados Institute
- To keep the language alive, and our innovative way of doing so is to use Latin American art and cultures as pedagogical tools.
- It also fosters intercultural and intergenerational encounters to preserve linguistic and cultural diversity in our society.
How do we keep Spanish alive?
Through a program of courses in Spanish as a heritage language and Spanish courses for the general public.
The courses are held in Montreal and online (coming soon).
We are developing our teaching materials for this particular purpose.
Why do we need your help?
Legados needs to complete the development of a collection of Spanish teaching books which will help us expand on Canadian soil and beyond our borders.
In addition, this material responds NOW to an urgent need to help newly arrived Spanish-speaking children (often with refugee status) with significant language difficulties. Their level of Spanish is below average, and they need special reinforcement in order to start learning a new language (French).
The Legados method responds to this need.
This is why we are launching this fundraising campaign to publish our learning method in pedagogical books (teacher's/family book and student's book).
